The Friendship Series was stitched on silks chosen for colors reminiscent of the skin tones of friends. They were made after a trip to Tibet, where prayers are written in words without space between them. Mandala designs also inspired this series.

The Journals, made on 12 meter long bolts of silk woven for kimonos, are stitched on daily. Sequential vertical lines mimic Asian script, something I was moved to do when deciding to work on the kimono cloth, so they can be unrolled, like scrolls, to be ”read”. A space separates the days. When two spaces are skipped, two days have passed without working.

Woven between vertical rows of “text”, stitched with the artist’s white hair, is her mother’s family crest.
